The age ole practice of adding a password to sacred/secret facility has been passed on to the technological generation. Passwords are added to files and folders to restrict access to these files, giving viewing rights only to the intended persons.

A more secure way (as compared to just putting a password) is to encrypt the file system so in order to access any of the object files or folders under the file system, the right keys or passwords (or a combination of them) need to be supplied. Such method has the advantage of protecting all the target files and folders with “on-the-fly” decryption. Also, modern encryption algorithm makes hacking or decryption rather impossible without the original password or keys.

And no matter what operating system you have, desktop computer or laptop computer, passwords and encryption play a big role in keeping your system secure.

Having said all that, what happens when you forget the keys to your lock, the passwords to your files? AHA!

One may need to perform a password recovery under the following circumstances:

  • Forgetting the original passwords
  • Corruption of original keys due to system crashes
  • Lost the keys due to refreshing of operating system
  • Unknown password lock after employees left the company
  • Computer forensic services to access password protected objects

ADRC has the capability to assist if you need to access some of the password protected data, file system or data media.
